From survey sites to affiliate marketing sites, there are tons of options for ways to earn extra spending money online. While chances are that you won’t make a living from doing them, who doesn’t want a little extra money for some casual work? If you’re looking to discover new things, help improve products and services you love, and get some gift cards for your trouble, consider Bizrate.
Whether you’ve just heard about survey sites and came across a Bizrate ad or are looking to add another survey panel to your rolodex, you’re probably wondering if it’s worth your time to register. Since everyone’s time is worth something different, we’ll provide everything you need to know about Bizrate to make the decision yourself.
About Bizrate Rewards
Bizrate Rewards is a division of Bizrate Insights, an online marketing research company that collects and provides insight into how the market feels about something. They’ve been in business for over 15 years, with more than 100 million surveys completed during their existence.
Using their panelists as representatives of the market, they collect feedback through surveys about various topics, brands, products, or services. This information is then used for marketing purposes, allowing these brands to get a general idea of what is good or bad about their new release. They then pay Bizrate Insights for the results, and through Bizrate Rewards you receive compensation for your time.
Who Is It For?
Bizrate Rewards is a US-based panel, only supporting members in the United States. If you happen to live outside the US, you’re unfortunately out of luck. You’ll also need to be at least 14 years old or older to participate, depending on your state of residence.
The program is for those who often shop with major retailers and are looking to get exclusive insight into new releases and more while earning some rewards. The more experience you have with the brands in their network, the more opportunities you may qualify for.
To begin, the website is very basic and not overly exciting. Between a lack of a responsive web design and a primarily white template, it could definitely use a little sprucing up. It also has one major downfall – you can’t register on the website, only login.
In order to sign up for Bizrate Rewards, you will need to visit one of their partnered online retailers and make a purchase or complete a satisfaction survey. Once you do, you’ll be invited to join – but without one, you’ll be stuck on the outside looking in.
Once you’re allowed to register, you’ll need to create an account that will allow you to login to the Bizrate Rewards site. In addition to a username and password, you’ll also have to fill out personal information like your age, location, and more to help them verify your eligibility. You’ll also be asked some questions to help determine what niches you fall into – the brands or services that would best apply to you – to ensure you only receive surveys you’re eligible for.
To participate in these surveys, you’ll need to wait until they pop into your inbox. You will be able to complete up to 2 surveys per week, with the opportunities being emailed to you. Simply click the link to accept the invitation and complete the survey ASAP – if there are limited spots, you may miss out!
These surveys can vary in length from a few minutes to as much as a half hour in some cases. The exact time it will take you depends on your reading speed and how easily you can answer the questions. Make sure you provide thoughtful responses though, otherwise you may be deemed ineligible and lose the opportunity.
The surveys are available online on your computer or mobile phone. There is no app (there used to be iOS and Android apps, but they were discontinued), but you can complete tasks on the mobile version of their website (though you may run into technical problems) if you’re on the go. We’d recommend sticking to a PC or laptop when possible, however.
Depending on the length and complexity of the survey, the rewards for completion will vary between 100-5,000 points (Bizrate Rewards’ credit system), with 1,000 points being worth $1. $0.10 for completing a survey is certainly not ideal, but in most cases, these will only be a few questions. On average, you can expect about 500-1,000 points per survey – much better than $0.10!
To claim your rewards, you’ll have to reach 5,000 points ($50) from answering surveys. Once you do, you’ll be able to choose a digital gift card to redeem your points. These can be from major partners of Bizrate, or something like Amazon that gives you a lot of versatility in how you can spend it – not nearly as much freedom as a cash option, though.
Bizrate Rewards vs. Other Sites
Bizrate’s downfall is that it doesn’t do anything to separate itself from the competition, and the things it does do aren’t done overly well.
To begin with, an invitation-only survey panel is inconvenient to say the least. It may allow them to better screen their panelists, but that, in combination with the lack of international support, can seriously limit the potential viability of the program for most users. Additionally, the rewards for surveys are less than many other sites. If you’re only able to complete 2 surveys a week and they choose to send you 2 worth 100 points each, you’ll be waiting half a year before you can cash out. Then once you do cash out, you’ll have to choose a gift card rather than being able to spend your earnings as cash. Finally, if a survey fills before you can complete it, you won’t be alerted until the end and will not receive compensation for your time. Talk about inconvenient!
Overall, it’s hard to recommend Bizrate Rewards over some of the other potential options out there. Lackluster rewards, minimal variety in survey types, limited survey opportunities, low pay, and no cash-equivalent cash outs drop Bizrate Rewards down to a non-necessity. You’re welcome to give it a try, but chances are that there’s a site out there that will work better for you.
